Design Process

We offer a complete garden design service, guiding each project from the first inspiration through to the finished garden.

Crafting outdoor spaces that are both beautiful and functional requires thought, coordination and expertise. Below is an outline of the steps we typically follow in our garden design process.

Step 1: Initial Consultation & Site Visit

We'll visit your site to walk the space together, discussing your thoughts, ideas and the potential of your garden. This is your opportunity to share your vision with us.

We'll explore your likes, dislikes and desires through guided questions, helping us understand how you want to use your outdoor space. We'll sketch, photograph and immerse ourselves in the unique character of your site.

Following our visit, we'll create a detailed brief that captures everything we've discussed, forming the foundation for your garden design.

Step 2: Concept Design

Following sign off of the brief we'll create a comprehensive Concept Document featuring:

  • A scaled masterplan showing the layout of your new garden

  • Mood boards illustrating planting styles and materials

  • An overview of each design element and how they work together

We'll present the concept design to you in detail, walking through our creative process and the thinking behind each decision. This is your chance to review, question and refine the design.

Step 3: Detailed design & specifications

Once you've signed off on the concept, we develop the detailed technical documents needed to bring your garden to life. These comprehensive plans ensure every element is built exactly as envisioned. Depending on the project this could include…

  • Annotated specification drawings

  • Setting out plans for precise positioning

  • Scope of work documentation

  • Section elevations and design detailing

  • Lighting and service plans

  • Material specification sheets

  • Planting plans (if you're managing planting separately)

Step 4: Landscape construction support

We can recommend trusted landscape contractors from our network. We're happy to manage the tendering process, coordinating quotes from carefully selected contractors on your behalf.

Following the appointment of your chosen contractor we are able to provide consultancy and project management throughout the build if required. We’re able to conduct regular site visits to oversee the work and we’re always on hand to answer questions providing clarity and guidance to keep the project running smoothly.

Step 5: Planting

Following construction we are able to manage the entire planting process from start to finish. Working with trusted nurseries, we'll source and select every plant according to the approved planting plan, considering quality, availability and seasonality. We coordinate all deliveries to align with optimal planting conditions, then come on site to place and plant each specimen using best practices for soil preparation and spacing. Finally, we'll provide a walkthrough of your newly planted garden with personalised care advice.

Step 6: Maintenance & support

Gardens are living spaces that evolve with the seasons, and all gardens require some maintenance to keep them looking their best. Throughout the project, we'll communicate the key maintenance requirements for your new garden and provide advice on how to care for your outdoor space so it remains beautiful for many years to come.
